IESE sets sights on South America

New Zealand company International Earth Sciences (IESE) is looking to expand its operations in South America with a representative attending this week’s Expomin 2016 conference in Santiago.

The mining industry event in Chile will run from April 25 to April 29 and is the biggest conference of its kind in Latin America and one of the most important events on the international industry’s calendar.

And with so many people and companies from the around the world attending it’s a perfect opportunity for IESE to look for new business opportunities.

International Earth Sciences (IESE) chief executive Dr Hylton White says the company is keen to tap into the region’s mining industry.

"I’ve worked in mining in South America before and it’s a strong market," Dr White says. "We have been looking at setting up a beach head in South America and NZTE has been giving us a lot of support."

IESE specialises in geothermal and micro-seismic analysis and grew out of a project by the now defunct University of Auckland Institute for Earth Sciences and Engineering.

The company will be represented at the Expomin 2016 conference in Santiago by Dr Nick Lindsay who was recently appointed by IESE as its Chilean representative.

The New Zealander has worked in Chile’s mining industry for the past 25 years and is a geologist by profession. Dr White says its great to add him to the team due to his wealth of experience in the region.

The company’s expertise in seismic monitoring allows its clients in the mining industry to incorporate their seismic, geotechnical, structural, geodetic and environmental monitoring on site.

IESE has only been going since 2014, but has already secured multi-million dollar contracts in Mexico, Japan, Germany, Indonesia and New Zealand. The company’s team includes an array of international experts in geology, seismology, physics and instrumentation and data analysis technology.
