IGA obtained the UN Special Consultative Status

With the Special Consultative Status the IGA was officially mandated to strategically advise UN entities.

In April 2015 the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) informed the IGA that the recommendation of the Committee on Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) to grant the UN special consultative status to the IGA was accepted. The consultative status enables the IGA to actively engage with the United Nations Secretariat programs, funds and agencies in a number of ways. Certain privileges, benefits and expectations are associated with the status. This includes IGA participation in the work of the Council, with member states and the UN system at large. The IGA can also submit and circulate written statements to the Council and the UN and bring in its expert advice on geothermal energy technologies, regions/ countries. Also, designated official representatives can be sent to the United Nations Headquarters and other UN offices. Additional input includes consultations with ECOSOC and its subsidiary bodies and oral presentations.
