About the Africa Regional Branch

Objectives and activities

The Africa Regional Branch represents the geothermal power sector in the Africa Region. It works for the promotion and regional deployment of geothermal energy technology and advocates a future energy system based on renewable energy. 

The Africa Regional Branch was established, under IGA, in 2012  and registered under the Kenyan Societies Law on 6 February 2013. Its certificate of Registration is enclosed.

The Africa Regional Branch promotes and supports research, the development and utilization of geothermal resources in the Africa Region through the publication of scientific and technical information among the geothermal specialists, the business community, governmental representatives, UN organisations, civil society and the general public.


At present, the Africa Regional Branch has more than 100 members. The membership categories include:

How to become a member of the Africa regional IGA branch?
In order to join the Africa Regional Branch Applications shall be sent to either the secretary or the chairperson of the regional branch for approval.

Membership fees
There is no membership fee. 

Structure and Bylaws

The Africa Regional Branch consists of its Membership, its Forum, its Officers, its Permanent Committees, its Secretariat and such Committees as from time to time may exist.

Geographic outline

The Africa Regional Branch of IGA relates to a Region comprising the following countries:
Burundi, Comoros, Democratic Republic of Congo, Djibouti, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Rwanda, Zambia,  Malawi and Mozambique.
Other countries may be added to this area by a majority vote of the Africa Regional Branch Forum.
