The IGA is pleased to announce that two papers have been selected to receive the IGA Best Paper Award for 2014. Also, two proposals were selected to receive the IGA PhD Student Research Grant for 2014.

Launch Event of the IGA Academy

On 14th November 2013 the IGA announced the foundation of the geothermal learning centre, the IGA Academy. The IGA Academy will be established at the headquarters of the IGA under the roof of the International Geothermal Centre Bochum (GZB) in Germany and be managed by the IGA Service GmbH.

Call for EoI to host World Geothermal Congress 2020

The IGA asks interested geothermal associations for an Expressions of Interest to host the WGC 2020.

IFC-IGA Developer’s Workshops on Geothermal Exploration Best Practices in Izmir, Turkey from 18-20 Nov. 2013

The IGA Service Company will offer two developer's workshops and a field trip to Kizildere Geothermal power plant within the framework of its cooperation with the International Finance Cooperation (IFC). Workshop No 1 on 18 November 2013 focuses on Geology and Exploration Drilling, Workshop No 2 on 19 November 2013 will focus on Geophysics and Geochemistry. Workshop topics include geological plays, geothermal reservoir characteristics in Turkey, borehole geomechanics, well design, drilling technologies, seismic methods, resistivity surveying and electromagnetic methods, water-rock interaction, isotope and gas geochemistry of geothermal systems. The registration fee for all three events booked together is about 200 Euro.

1st Workshop on the Geothermal Energy Initiative in Latin America

At the beginning of 2013 the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) together with the Latin America Energy Organization (OLADE) and the International Geothermal Association (IGA) decided to collaborate to promote geothermal energy in Latin America.

On 20 Oct. 2011 the five partners of the REN Alliance released a position paper on the Green Climate Fund.

Establishment of the IGA East African Regional Branch

During the IGA Board of Directors meeting on 18-19 November 2011, the Board approved the formation of the IGA East African Regional Branch. You may read the background paper for the establishment of the IGA East African Regional Branch. The Board nominated Meseret as Chairwoman of the Branch.

Regional geothermal power plant maps produced

In December 2011 the IGA Secretariat produced three regional geothermal power plant maps (Central America, New Zealand, Indonesia/ Philippines) in cooperation with the International Geothermal Centre, Bochum.

Policy Brief on role of geothermal in international energy strategies

In early summer 2011 three energy strategies were launched. The policy brief provides an overview.
