Vacancy announcement Professor for Reservoir Engineering & Petrophysics

The Bochum University of Applied Sciences (Germany) asks candidates to apply until 31 March 2013.

The position is available at the INTERNATIONAL GEOTHERMAL CENTER (GZB). The GZB is a scientific department of the University and a joint University/ Industry - Research Organization of several german and international Universities. It serves as the secretariat of the International Geothermal Association (IGA). The new professor will also be head of the reservoir engineering research group of the newly founded Bochum Graduate School on Enhanced Geothermal Systems (AGES) of the two organizing institutions Ruhr-University Bochum (RUB) and Bochum University of Applied Sciences (HSBO). Thus, the professorship will be part of one of the major interdisciplinary geothermal research networks.

The International Geothermal Center is excellently equipped with drilling- and reservoir technologies, energy technology and geoscientific laboratories including a full size in-situ field laboratory at the Bochum Campus. The research activities of the new Professor for Reservoir Engineering and Petrophysics are expected to focus on the characterization, exploration, stimulation and production processes of geothermal reservoirs. Related geotechnological research activities on the energy sector and a close collaboration with the energy industry are also requested.

The professorship will contribute to an undergraduate (german), graduate (german + english) and professional (english) teaching and training program with special focus on rock physics and mechanics, reservoir characterization and engineering, geophysical exploration and monitoring methods, reservoir management. The development of an international active and cross-linked research group is expected, according to the leading position of the Bochum Universities in fundamental and applied geothermal research.

The favorable new professor will have an academic degree (MSc. or comparable) and a doctorate in geosciences, petroleum engineering or mining engineering. Several years of industry experience in the related fields are preferable, alternatively replaced by appropriate scientific qualifications, e.g. as a junior professor, by habilitation or as a scientist in an executive position.
