A message from the chairman

As chair of the IGA WGC Steering Committee I appreciate your consideration of this request and I hope that you will not only be able to make a generous contribution, but will also be a major participant in the various technical cultural and social events afforded by WGC 2010 participation.

Please feel free to contact myself or Jim Lawless, Finance Committee Chair, with any questions.

2010 World Geothermal Congress Bali
2010 World Geothermal Congress Bali
The 2010 World Geothermal Congress (WGC) is now just over six months away. This unique event brings the international geothermal community together once every 5 years to share scientific and technical information, new technology and industry trends, success stories and market opportunities for future developments. The 2010 WGC is being hosted by the Indonesian Geothermal Association (INAGA) and will convene on the 25th to 30th of April 2010 in beautiful Bali with its unparalleled geothermal resources, rich cultural heritage, and lush vegetation and not to be over looked fabulous beaches.

Our Indonesians hosts are hard at work making arrangements to provide the expected 2000+ participants with the opportunity to visit numerous geothermal fields and cultural sites; organizing a trade show with technical exhibits highlighting the products and services of commercial companies involved in geothermal development; reserving hotels and planning various cultural and social events. But it is the International Geothermal Association (IGA) that is responsible for assuring that the event provides the best possible technical program and is available to the widest possible audience through providing Fellowship for participants.

Over 1000 papers have already been submitted for oral and poster presentation and 5 technical short courses are planned.

Now that many of the aspects of the technical program are well underway, a major role for the IGA is to solicit funds to support the Technical Program and to provide as many fellowships for geothermalists from developing countries as possible. Recipients of fellowships must have submitted a technical paper for oral or poster presentation which has been accepted by the technical committee, have solicited funds from their own organization and are, in the opinion of the fellowship committee, worthy of support.

How Your Donation Will Assist
Donations to the IGA for fellowships or other aspects of the technical program for which the IGA is responsible maybe be designated by the donor for a particular use e.g. fellowships to attend short courses, fellowships to attend the congress and participate in all technical aspects of the Congress or may be for general support of the overall Technical Program. Funds donated to the IGA will only be used to support these elements of the Technical Program. They are outside the general Congress budget, which is the responsibility of INAGA, who may be separately approaching you to offer exhibition space and sponsorship opportunities.

We hope that you are in a position to make a financial commitment to the IGA WGC 2010 Technical Program and support this very worthy cause. Any and all donations will be fully recognized in Congress literature including the final program, the Congress proceeding etc.

The level of contribution is up to you and all inputs will be greatly received. However, to put the amounts into context, approximately US$1000-2500 per participants will be needed for fellowships.

In as much as we must begin the process of selecting fellows in late 2009 we would appreciate your commitment to provide funds as early as possible although, the money would not need to be transferred to the IGA WGC Steering Committee until the end of 2009 or early 2010.
